Palm Beach Gardens: From Garden Community to Urban Center
The city's population has doubled since 2010, forcing planners to confront a question it was designed to avoid.
John MacArthur's original vision for Palm Beach Gardens, sketched in 1959, was deliberate and specific: a garden community of 55,000 residents spread across meticulously planned neighborhoods, golf courses, and nature preserves.
In 2026, the city's population sits at approximately 62,000 — and city planners project it will reach 85,000 by 2040. The garden community is becoming something else entirely.
